The souls of art rejoin the waters of myth in the ancient Saronic Island of Hydra. Thanks to the generous and bold patronage of Dakis Joanna, ten artists have been invited to showcase their art at an exhibition titled Souls.
“White Cherry Jam” unifies a white ball and a needle, shaped like a cherry in a mason jar. It conjures an unknown taste of a fruit that no one has experienced. Blending the familiar with the imaginary, the viewer is invited to a new dimension. The artwork refers to complementary duality through multiple references on various levels.
When I saw a golf game for the very first time, the hit and then the movement of the ball was like the birth of a new path with billions of different possibilities in spacetime. Passing through different stages, low and high, being lucky while being subject to the determinism that governs it, like the player who hits the ball, the speed of the wind, the wetness of the ground, gravity and finally it's falling into the black hole of eternity is like the path of life. A person is born and wrapped in a white cloth, then dies and again is wrapped in white. He is born alongside others in the hospital and sleeps with others in the cemetery while retaining his singular journey within. Like a cherry in a jar of jam. Hitting the hard needle, made of the same steel as a golf club, is like the sperm that strikes the mother's egg. With the first hit, life begins then death as the ball no longer moves with the needle inside. It's no longer a rolling ball. Only a white cherry in the jar of White Cherry Jam.
